OSSELWICK: The House That Listens
Your little brother Pim rode his bike up the hill to Osselwick House on a dare, and he never came back down.
It is past midnight now. The rain won't stop and the lightning shows you broken windows. All you have is a flashlight with a tired battery. Somewhere in the dark rooms is Pim. Somewhere in the dark rooms is the Stillkeeper.
The Stillkeeper is tall, pale and silent, and it cannot see well. It hears every running step, every creaking door and every swing of your flashlight beam. Read the notes the house's last keepers left behind. Solve their old puzzles by candle and moonlight. Learn why the bell in the tower fell silent. Then decide whether to walk out the front gate, or climb the tower and make it ring.
OSSELWICK is a top-down exploration horror game in the style of the 8-bit home consoles. Everything (graphics, font, music and sound) is generated in code and runs right in your browser. It has two endings.
FEATURES
- A limited light radius with real dithered darkness. Your flashlight shows the way, but it also shows you to the creature.
- Battery management. Lit lamps, candles and moonlit windows give you places to rest your eyes.
- A stalker AI that hunts by noise and light. Running, doors and machinery all carry sound, and carpet is quieter than stone.
- Hiding spots in wardrobes, cupboards and chests. If it watches you climb in, it will know where you are.
- A heartbeat that quickens as it gets near, plus jump scares and stingers. Lightning flashes can be turned off.
- Five areas: the overgrown grounds, the ground floor, the upper floor, the flooded cellar and the belfry.
- Puzzles with light: a portrait candle order, moonbeam mirrors, ink that only shows in your beam, a safe dial and a generator crank.
- 14 readable notes that tell an original story about the family, the housekeeper and the bell.
- A chase sequence through the cellar and a three-toll finale in the bell tower.
- Two endings (a quiet escape or the true ending) and an end-of-run stats screen with a rank.
- Automatic checkpoints and save lamps, with Continue saved in your browser.
- An original chiptune soundtrack and synthesized SFX: footsteps, heartbeat, storm wind, thunder and the bell.
- Keyboard, gamepad and touch controls, with fullscreen and a mute setting that is remembered.
